On September 1, 2019, a devastating flash flood swept through Hell's Gate in Naivasha, claiming the lives of seven tourists and their tour guide.
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has confirmed that six bodies have been recovered, while one person remains missing.
According to KWS officials, the tourists were exploring the gorge in Hell's Gate, a popular tourist destination, when they were washed away by the flash flood.
Hell's Gate, established in 1984, has a history of claiming lives, including a 2012 incident where seven members of a church group died in a similar flood.
“Seven tourists were swept away by flash floods. Six bodies have been recovered while one is missing,” KWS Communications department said.
The tourists were exploring the gorge, which was also a filming location for the 2003 film “Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.”
