On August 31, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) launched an operation to track down a census enumerator who had gone missing after being filmed playing with children during a household survey.
Collins Kiprono, a census enumerator, was identified as the man who had captured the hearts of many Kenyans with his playful antics.
According to Kiprono, he and his team were tasked with counting people who were homeless or living in hospitals, and they did not expect the video to go viral.
"It spread very fast and I did not expect it," Kiprono said.
He added that the good time he had with the children was something he would do anywhere and anytime because it was one of his goals in life.
"If I were to be a source of change, I would be a reason for you to learn, if you do not learn, I would be a source of your happiness," Kiprono said.
At the moment, Kiprono is working as a water and sanitation enumerator, and he has completed his first degree in Egerton University in 2017 but has not graduated yet due to a huge debt he owes.
He hopes to clear the debt one day and graduate.
