Eric Wainaina Opens Up About Cheating Scandal, Marriage, and Lessons Learned ¶
It's been nearly a decade since Eric Wainaina's career and marriage were threatened by a cheating scandal. The singer, who was in a relationship with Sheba Hirst at the time, had an affair with former Tusker Project Fame contestant Valerie Kimani, resulting in a child.
Published on September 2, 2019, in an interview with Sunday Standard, Eric Wainaina revealed that if he could undo one thing in his life, it would be the pain his unfaithfulness caused his wife and their families.
He stated, 'I learnt a lot of lessons about faithfulness. We live in a society where men have been raised to imagine that it is OK to have multiple partners and that your friends will keep your secrets for you.'
Eric Wainaina also spoke about his 'modern' marriage with Sheba, which has been going strong for 21 years. They have two children together and share domestic responsibilities, including cooking and taking care of the kids.
He said, 'I do not believe in gender-specific domestic roles. I was raised to do the dishes and cook. My mum was very clear about things like that.'
