On 1 September, Deputy President William Ruto addressed the people of Nakuru at the AIPCA Cathedral in Flamingo Estate, Nakuru County, where he assured the County Government of his support in transforming Nakuru Town into a city.
Speaking at the Nakuru AIPCA Cathedral, Ruto stated that he is ready to support the County Government in achieving their goal within the shortest period possible.
He urged the Nakuru leaders to focus on what they can achieve first and then inform him to push for the dream of making Nakuru the first city in the Rift Valley region.
Deputy President Ruto also emphasized that the busy county, which serves as the Rift Valley's regional headquarters, deserves to be called a city, and that the Jubilee administration has more projects lined up for the county.
He gave the people of Nakuru a guarantee that the government is committed to ensuring the county becomes a city, citing its rapid economic growth.
As part of this commitment, Ruto announced that the national government plans to spend approximately Ksh 1 billion to provide electricity to 25,000 households.
He also assured the people of Nakuru that the government is committed to ensuring sufficient water supply, good quality roads, and improved agricultural sector economy.
Furthermore, Ruto stated that the government plans to reduce congestion on the Nairobi-Nakuru-Eldoret highway by constructing a four-lane dual carriageway from Nairobi to Mau Summit.
