On September 1, 2019, a devastating road accident occurred on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway near Naivasha town, claiming the lives of six people and leaving nine others seriously injured.
The accident happened at Nyakairu centre, 15km from Naivasha town, after a truck collided with a matatu. Five people died instantly, while the sixth victim succumbed to their injuries at Naivasha Sub-county Hospital.
Naivasha Road Safety Association Chairman James Kabono attributed the crash to careless driving by the lorry driver, who had left his lane while overtaking the matatu.
"The crash was as a result of careless driving," Mr. Kabono said, emphasizing the need for traffic officers to take their job seriously.
Naivasha East MCA Stanley Karanja called for the installation of speed bumps on the black spot to reduce fatal accidents, citing the need for traffic officers to handle speeding drivers.
Naivasha deputy OCPD John Kwasa confirmed the incident, urging drivers to exercise caution, especially on that section of the road.
