On July 24, Mary Mumbua delivered a baby boy at a clinic in Nairobi's Kwera area. However, she never got to see her child again.
According to Mumbua, Stanley Mutisya, the pharmacist who helped her deliver, took the baby to another room to clean him and cut the umbilical cord. When she asked to see her child, Mutisya allegedly told her the baby had died and he had given the body to a street family to dispose of it.
Mumbua testified that when she tried to confront Mutisya over the death claims, he turned violent. She reported the matter to the police one month later after recovering from birth complications.
On September 2, 2019, Mutisya appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Steven Jalang'o at the Makadara law courts. He denied the accusations and was released on a Sh200,000 bond after pleading for lenient bail terms. The next hearing was set for December 5.
