Published on September 2, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto has thrown his weight behind Nakuru's bid to become Kenya's fourth city.

Speaking during the launch of Nakuru AIPCA Cathedral in Flamingo estate, Ruto expressed his readiness to support the county government in achieving its dream of transforming Nakuru into a city.

"Once you are done with what is in your power, I will be waiting for you, ready to support this noble dream," Ruto said, adding that the county's cosmopolitan nature and historical significance make it deserving of city status.

The Deputy President also announced plans to spend Sh1 billion on electrifying 25,000 households in the county, as well as ensuring a sufficient water supply and proper road network to propel the county's economy from agricultural to industrial.

Additionally, Ruto revealed plans to construct a four-lane dual-carriageway from Nairobi to Mau Summit to address congestion along the Nairobi-Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

He also launched a Sh15 million water project in Subukia, providing a major boost to Suka Dairies, a cooperative society producing processed dairy products.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui expressed optimism that the county would be granted its city status charter before the end of the year, citing progress in plans to achieve this goal.
