On September 1, 2019, Harambee Starlets secured a 3-0 win over Malawi's She-Flames in the return leg of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Qualifiers at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Diminutive forward Mwanalima Adam scored a second-half brace, helping the team qualify for the third round of the competition with a 5-3 aggregate score.
The Starlets will face either Ghana or Gabon in the next round.
Coach David Ouma praised the team's performance, saying, 'This is a relatively new team, but I'm impressed with their performance. We kept it tight at the back with a very youthful team. We are looking forward to our next opponents in the next round.'
Adam was equally thrilled with the team's performance, stating, 'We came into this match in need of a win and we did it in style despite missing the support of our fans. It was a collective performance.'
The match saw several scoring opportunities for both teams, with Kenya's Elizabeth Wambui coming close to scoring in the fifth minute but hitting the post.
Adam eventually broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, scoring a fierce drive past Malawi goalkeeper Samir Amidu.
Malawi had several chances to draw level, but the Kenyan team held strong, with Adam sealing the win with her second goal in the 77th minute.
