On September 2, 2019, Governor Jackson Mandago expressed concerns over the government's handling of local companies accused of tax evasion, terming it counterproductive.
He suggested that the government and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) seek alternative ways of dealing with tax evaders instead of prosecution, which he believed would hurt employment opportunities for Kenyans.
According to Mandago, the government and KRA should initiate amicable ways for local companies with outstanding taxes to meet their tax obligations, rather than closing down businesses.
He also implored KRA to come up with a more diplomatic approach when dealing with non-compliant companies and individuals.
Speaking during a ceremony to award bursaries to 550 bright but needy students, Mandago emphasized the importance of education in empowering the youth to be self-reliant.
He congratulated the previous team of 100 students who joined the Kenya Medical Training College (KTTC) for their discipline and hard work, adding that 98 of them completed and passed their examination.
