On September 1, 2019, a sting operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) led to the arrest of three individuals suspected to be part of a notorious Nairobi car theft syndicate.
The suspects, Francis Kinyanjui, 53, Stephen Njoroge, 33, and Gladys Wanjiku, 36, were apprehended at West View Plaza in Kahawa West.
According to the DCI, the three are allegedly part of a gang that has been terrorizing residents of Kasarani and Roysambu by stealing vehicles from unsuspecting members of the public after stupefying them during drinking sessions in nightclubs.
Area OCPD Peter Kimani revealed that Stephen Njoroge, the leader of the gang, has been under surveillance for a long time due to his involvement in several vehicle theft cases in the area.
Police confiscated two stolen vehicles, several smartphones, SIM cards, and psychotropic drugs during the operation, and a hunt is currently underway for a fourth suspect who remains at large.
The three suspects are being detained at Kasarani Police Station pending arraignment in court next week.
