On September 1, 2019, a group of 15 lawmakers from Mt Kenya allied to the Tanga Tanga lobby rejected the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and declared that Deputy President William Ruto's presidential ambitions were unstoppable.

Speaking at Kangaita Primary School in Kirinyaga County, the lawmakers, including Munene Wambugu, Gichimu Githinji, and Kimani Ichung'wa, launched a scathing attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga, telling him to forget becoming Kenya's president.

The lawmakers vowed to continue drumming up support for DP Ruto to ensure he takes over power in the 2022 elections.

They accused the BBI of being formed to propel Mr. Odinga to State House and vowed not to back it.

Ms. Wangui Ngirici dismissed the BBI as a waste of time and resources, calling for its disbandment.

Mr. Ichung'wa described the BBI as a political outfit meant to create seats for a few rich 'political rejects.'

Ms. Jane Kihara described Mr. Odinga as a spent force, telling him to retire from politics.

DP Ruto defended Jubilee, saying it was solid and would continue focusing on transforming the country by initiating development projects.
