Michael Joseph, the acting CEO of Safaricom, has expressed his willingness to remain at the company for an extended period, stating that he considers Safaricom to be 'my company.'
Speaking to the media, Joseph emphasized his commitment to the company's success, saying, 'Personally, this is really my company. I really want to make sure nothing happens to this company and will stay on for as long as is necessary.'
Joseph, who previously led Safaricom as founding CEO from 2000 to 2010, was reappointed to the position on an interim basis following the death of Bob Collymore in July.
He noted that the process of recruiting a new CEO is in its final stages, but acknowledged that the new appointee may not have a telecommunications background, which could lead to a longer interim period.
Joseph stated, 'The next appointee may not necessarily be from a telco background and therefore there is a likelihood of staying on longer on an interim or advisory post as the new appointee amalgamates to the role.'
