On Sunday, September 1, 2019, Harambee Starlets secured a spot in the next round of the 2020 Olympic qualifiers with a 3-0 win over Malawi She-Flames at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
The win marked a significant comeback for the Kenyan ladies, who had lost the first leg 2-3 in Malawi. However, with a 5-3 aggregate win, Starlets booked their place in the next round of the qualifiers.
Starlets' victory was made possible by a Mwanahalima Adam brace and a goal from Cynthia Shilwatso. Adam scored in the 77th and 88th minute, while Shilwatso netted the opening goal 18 minutes before halftime.
The win is a significant boost to the Kenyan ladies, who are now one step closer to securing a place at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 9.
