On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Zoo Kericho kicked off their Kenya Premier League (KPL) season in style, beating Chemelil Sugar 3-1 at the Green Stadium in Kericho on September 1, 2019.
Despite a goalless first half, the home side broke the deadlock in the 55th minute courtesy of Kepha Ondati, and Derrick Anami doubled the lead in the 71st minute.
Rashid Athman pulled one back for Chemelil, but Ondati sealed the win with a calm finish in the 79th minute.
Coach Herman Iswekha praised his team's performance, saying they had a good pre-season and had strengthened their squad with new players.
Iswekha acknowledged that Chemelil is a tough opponent, but was pleased with his team's effort and the three points they secured.
With a good team morale and unity, Iswekha is optimistic about Zoo's chances this season, having narrowly avoided relegation last season.
Next up for Zoo is a match against Bandari on Saturday, September 14 in Mombasa.
