On September 1, 2019, NTV was set to air an investigative exposé titled 'Sins of Saviours' that would have laid bare the alleged corruption and abuse of children's rights within the Child Welfare Society of Kenya, a state corporation responsible for protecting vulnerable children.
The investigative team at NTV had been investigating the Child Welfare Society of Kenya for four months, gathering damning evidence of embezzlement of public funds and abuse of children's rights.
According to Edmond Nyabola, an award-winning investigative journalist at NTV, the CEO of the Child Welfare Society of Kenya, Irene Mureithi, threatened the station, claiming that the exposé would not see the light of day and that she knew people in high places.
When the threats did not work, Mureithi allegedly went to the Children's court and obtained an order barring NTV from airing the exposé.
NTV has vowed to fight the order and air the exposé, which alleges that the state corporation has turned into a tormentor of children, abusing their rights and denying them proper healthcare and dignity.
