On September 1, 2019, ODM leader Raila Odinga addressed a gathering at Kanyamkago Ward during the burial of Mr. Joseph Ogutu Magaka of St. John Everlasting Church.

At the event, Raila emphasized that the Kanyamkago people originated from Uyoma Clan in Siaya County, and urged the Migori Governor Okoth Obado to embrace his root and unite the Luos instead of dividing them.

Obado has been accused of involving clans in four different counties in the Nyanza region to execute his move to divide the Luos politically.

However, Obado denied the allegations, claiming that he had been left out in the Raila inner circle and ODM affairs, and challenged Raila to invite him next time in his meetings.

Obado also urged his people to stop listening to people criticizing him for not supporting the handshake, stating that he supports the handshake bid fully.
