On September 1, 2019, Kenya National Congress (KNC) took a drastic step against one of its own, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, a vocal critic of the handshake and a key ally of Deputy President William Ruto in the Kisii region.
Osoro, who won the seat on a KNC ticket, found himself in trouble after the party wrote to the Registrar of Political Parties seeking to strike him off from the party list of members.
The party alleged that Osoro had been promoting another political party's interests and had failed to participate in KNC party matters.
However, Osoro denied the allegations, stating that his personal friendship with Deputy President Ruto had been misinterpreted as promoting the agenda of other political parties.
According to a letter signed by KNC Secretary General James Ogembo, the party instructed the Registrar of Political Parties to remove Osoro's name from the KNC party register.
