On Saturday night, a devastating road accident occurred in Naivasha, claiming the lives of six people and leaving nine others seriously injured.

The accident happened at Nyakairu center, 15 kilometers from Naivasha town, after a truck collided head-on with an incoming Nissan matatu, killing four passengers on the spot.

Five people died instantly, while the sixth victim succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at Naivasha sub-county hospital.

Police were forced to tow away the wreckage, paralyzing traffic on the busy highway before it could resume.

According to Naivasha Road Safety Association chairman James Kabono, the lorry driver was at fault for the accident.

“Five people have died on the spot and scores of others have been injured and rushed to Naivasha sub-county hospital,” he said.

Naivasha East MCA Stanley Karanja called for the installation of speed bumps in the area to reduce fatal accidents.

“It’s a sad day that we have lost six people in this accident which could have been avoided and it’s time traffic officers contained the speeding driver,” he said.

Naivasha deputy OCPD John Kwasa confirmed the accident, stating that the bodies had been collected and taken to the area mortuary.
