Published on September 1, 2019, Victor Wanyama's highly anticipated move to Club Brugge is facing a major setback.

The 28-year-old Tottenham midfielder was set to join the Belgian side on a four-year contract worth £13 million, but the deal is now in jeopardy due to financial issues.

Wanyama, who still has two years left on his deal with Spurs, was required to take a pay cut to join Brugge, but he is hesitant to rush into the wrong move.

Other clubs, including Celtic, Monaco, Valencia, and Bologna, had shown interest in the Harambee Stars midfielder, but ideally wanted him in a loan deal.

Wanyama's future at Tottenham was already uncertain following the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele in the summer, and Mauricio Pochettino's preference for youngster Oliver Skipp has further pushed him down the pecking order.
