TSP leader Mwangi Kiunjuri has specified conditions for participating in the Sagana 3 meeting hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta, stressing the need for a transparent regional agenda and independent political positioning. Kiunjuri clarified that his attendance depends on an official invitation from the head of state and a defined focus for the Mt Kenya region.
The former Cabinet Secretary warned against the gathering becoming a Jubilee Party-exclusive event, stating the Service Party of Kenya (TSP) would not engage in what he described as a partisan exercise. "As TSP, if invited by the Head of State to forge a way forward for the region, we will attend with the agenda set out clearly to us," Kiunjuri stated.
His remarks come amid 2021-2020 political developments, including Kiunjuri's 2021 assertion that maintaining TSP's independence was strategically necessary to ensure the Mt Kenya region's interests were protected. A 2020 photo shows Kiunjuri with Deputy President William Ruto, reflecting their past alliance before their political divergence.
Kiunjuri also addressed coalition dynamics, noting that while political parties forming alliances like Azimio La Umoja or Kenya Kwanza is acceptable, TSP would determine its own path. "We are alive to the fact that no one will win this alone so we will either form a coalition before or after the polls which we will decide," he added.
