Published on September 1, 2019, Huawei Kenya has announced plans to streamline its hiring policies to boost female participation in top leadership positions across the company's departments.

The company's Women in Technology (WITH) program is part of its efforts to help women of all cadres and backgrounds pursue careers in technology-related fields through various mentorship programs.

According to Huawei Technologies Kenya CEO Stone He, the company has taken up the challenge to increase women's participation in decision-making and management through hiring and training of more female IT professionals.

"To boost women in technology requires giving them more opportunities to do so. However, we are not doing so well. That is why we have come up with the Women in Technology Huawei (WITH) program," said He.

The program's lead, Maureen Mwaniki, aims to increase the number of women in IT, with a target of 40% in the next few years, up from the current 25%.

Founder and Director of eMentoring Africa, Esther Muchiri, emphasized the need for more resources to be channeled towards women's mentorship, citing a lack of self-belief and support among women as a major obstacle.
