Published on September 1, 2019, a series of shootings in Midland, Texas, left two people dead and up to 20 others injured, according to local officials.
The shootings began shortly after 4 p.m. local time, with two or possibly three gunmen targeting motorists on Interstate 20 and Highway 191, which connects Midland to Odessa, Texas.
Midland Mayor Jerry Morales described the situation, saying, "They are shooting at random. We have two fatalities and up to 20 injuries."
Law enforcement officers were trying to keep drivers off the highways, with the Midland Police Department stating on Facebook that they believed there were two gunmen in separate vehicles.
The police also warned the public to stay away from the areas and stay indoors, citing a gold/white small Toyota truck and a USPS Postal Van as the vehicles of interest.
Meanwhile, the Odessa Police Department reported a similar situation, with a gunman or possibly two shooting at random people in the area.
The University of Texas of the Permian Basin directed students to stay in their dorms or offices and not open their doors, as law enforcement authorities searched for the suspect.
