On August 31, 2019, detectives in Kenya made a significant arrest in a case of large-scale fraud.
Mr. Zachary Mwangi Kariuki, a suspect accused of defrauding millions of shillings from the public, was apprehended by Flying Squad officers in Limuru.
According to Flying Squad boss Musa Yego, Mr. Kariuki had been on the run for some time and had six warrants of arrest issued against him for obtaining money from members of the public through false pretences.
"We managed to arrest him in Limuru and realised he had six warrants of arrest for obtaining money from members of the public who have since reported to the flying squad unit on how they have been conned," said Mr. Yego.
Mr. Kariuki's arrest comes after he had been on the run since 2013, when he obtained money through false pretences and had a pending warrant of arrest for a number of cases in court.
He had been arrested before and had paid bail, but went into hiding shortly after.
Mr. Yego stated that the suspect will be arraigned to answer to fraud charges.
"Let people be cautious when dealing with such people, we have realised there are many Kariuki's," said Mr. Yego.
