On Saturday, Mathare United and Bandari FC kicked off their 2019/2020 Kenyan Premier League campaign with a 0-0 draw at Ruaraka grounds in Nairobi.
Despite dominating the exchange, Mathare United failed to capitalize on their scoring chances, with coach Salim Ali attributing their loss to poor finishing.
“We had many chances but failed to score. It means we must work on our finishing,” said Ali.
Kevin Kimani came close to giving Mathare the lead, but his finish was clumsy after he lost his footing in a scramble with the Bandari defenders.
Mathare continued to dominate, but Bandari goalkeeper Michael Wanyika made crucial saves to deny them the win.
Elsewhere, KCB FC marked their return to topflight football with a 3-0 win over Sony Sugar FC at the Green Stadium in Awendo.
Enock Agwanda and Stephen Waruru gave the bankers a 2-0 lead at halftime, and Yusuf Mohammed's own goal in the 79th minute sealed the win for KCB.
Wazito FC and Nzoia Sugar FC played to a 1-1 draw in an entertaining match at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
