On Friday evening, a tragic incident occurred in Konoin, Bomet County, where a middle-aged man hacked his two sons to death in a fit of rage.

The motive behind the heinous crime was a quarrel with his wife over maize flour, specifically 4kg of unga.

According to the area police boss Alex Shikondi, the suspect, 28-year-old Peter Langat, had earlier warned his wife that he would commit the act if she failed to provide the maize flour.

The suspect claimed that his wife, a teacher at Siomo primary, provided nothing for the family, which led to the violent outburst.

After the meal, the wife fearfully prepared and took off with the children, seeking refuge in the home of the suspect's brother, Mr. Daniel Langat.

However, the suspect stormed the house at around 10pm with a machete and slashed the minors, a six and four-year-old. His wife managed to run away.

Those present raised alarm and rushed the children to Cheptalal Sub-County hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled after the incident.

The deceased have been moved to Kapkatet Sub-County mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
