The 2019 Kenya population and housing census was set to conclude on Saturday, August 31st, 2019.
Principal Secretary for State Department of Planning, Saitoti Torome, announced that the government had reached 95% of Kenyans, and there would be no extension of the exercise.
Enumerators were working to cover areas that were initially inaccessible, and Torome expressed hope that the remaining 5% would be reached within the remaining hours.
Despite the government's confidence in the exercise, several challenges had been faced, including arrests and court charges for individuals who broke census rules.
Isiolo South elders called for an extension of the exercise, citing poor conduct in the constituency and a need for additional resources to ensure justice for the local populace.
Former Isiolo County assembly speaker, Mohamed Tupi, led the call, stating that previous census exercises had been conducted haphazardly and did not reflect the real situation on the ground.
