Kenya Airways, the country's flag carrier airline, is facing a massive Sh100 billion scandal that occurred between 2003 and 2014, when Titus Naikuni was at the helm of the airline.

According to an audit report prepared by Deloitte four years ago, the airline used the black market to repatriate cash from Sudan, South Sudan, and Ethiopia back to Nairobi, resulting in a loss of Sh5.4 billion.

The investigation, led by the Director of Criminal Investigations, will also look into how Titus Naikuni and his team purchased a second-hand plane from KLM for Sh2 billion and sold it off at Sh200 million, resulting in a loss of Sh1.8 billion.

Additionally, the probe will investigate suspicious transactions, including undervalued tickets, huge discounts allocated to travel agents, and theft of parts in aircraft maintenance.

The airline's management is also accused of allowing its staff to void, refund, and reissue tickets, causing a revenue loss of $12 million.

Kenya Airways has been making losses despite the rise in revenues and passenger numbers, with the airline doubling its loss from last year to record an 8.56 billion loss for the half year ending June 30th.
