On a night of drama and excitement in Rabat, Morocco, Kenya's national women volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, put aside recent controversies to claim the gold medal at the African Games.

With a 3-1 win over Cameroon, the team secured their revenge against their arch-rivals, who had beaten them in the final of the last two African Cup of Nations in Egypt last July.

Coach Paul Bitok's appointment had been surrounded by controversy, with former trainer Shaileen Ramdoo claiming a witch-hunt and sabotage led to his dramatic sacking.

However, Bitok's team proved their worth, beating Cameroon, Nigeria, and Algeria in their group stage matches, marking his first tournament at the helm.

Hosts Morocco claimed the bronze medal after a thrilling 3-2 win over Nigeria, while Senegal secured fifth place with a 3-0 win over Botswana.

Botswana finished sixth, and Seychelles ended their campaign at the bottom of the pool.
