On August 30, 2019, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's account was compromised by a group known as the 'Chuckle Squad', who used the account to post offensive tweets.

The tweets, which included racial slurs and antisemitic messages, were up for around 10 minutes before being deleted. The hackers also sent a catastrophic denial from Dorsey's account.

Twitter initially stated that the account was secure and that there was no indication that their systems had been compromised. However, they later pointed the blame at Dorsey's cell carrier, saying that the phone number associated with the account was compromised due to a security oversight by the mobile provider.

Twitter acquired a company called Cloudhopper to help bolster their SMS service, and it appears that the hackers were using this old SMS service to send the tweets.

The hack is believed to be from the same group that attacked a number of YouTube celebrities last week, including James Charles, Shane Dawson, and King Bach. The hackers also allegedly gained access to the late Desmond 'Etika' Amofah's Gmail account.
