On a fateful day in August 2019, a tragic incident shook the quiet town of Mirangine in Nyandarua. A 32-year-old father, identified as Kelvin Wambui, a boda-boda rider, allegedly took the lives of his two young sons before ending his own life.
According to police, the motive behind the heinous crime was a domestic dispute that had been brewing for two years. Wambui's father-in-law had allegedly taken away his wife, leaving him and his children to suffer in misery.
Police found a blood-stained machete at the scene, which they suspect was used to attack the two boys, aged eight and six. The man's body was discovered dangling from the roof of his house.
A relative of the victims reported hearing commotion and cries from the house but found it locked from inside. Despite alerting other neighbours, they failed to respond in time due to heavy rain.
By the time the neighbours managed to gather in the compound, there was an eerie silence in the house. Their calls to the father and the two sons went unanswered.
