On Friday, during the burial of the late Evangelist Caleb Kiptanui Borom Arap Ross in Kimuri, Ngeria Ward, Kapsaret Constituency, Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi made a passionate plea to the Head of State regarding the impending plans to evict Mau settlers.
The outspoken MP urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider a long-term solution for the evictees before they are driven out of the Mau forest.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sudi suggested that the Kenyatta and Moi families should give out a portion of their lands for resettling the Mau evictees if the eviction is going to be effected.
The MP alleged that the large portions of land owned by the two families belong to Kenya at large.
As a result of the Mau forest phase two eviction, 15 schools have already been shut down by the government. The schools were set up in areas targeted in the second phase of evictions in the Mau Forest.
Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya stated on Wednesday that the schools are not government institutions and have been set up in the area illegally.
