On August 30, 2019, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula announced that the party would unveil its candidate for the Kibra by-election next week.
Wetangula stated that the party's candidate would be a 'dynamic, young, professional, Kibra-born, grassroots operator' who would carry on the legacy of the late Ken Okoth.
'A dynamic, young, professional, Kibra-born, grassroots operator who will carry on with the dynamic legacy left by Hon Ken Okoth. Watch the space!!' Wetangula said on Twitter.
Wetangula's announcement was met with mixed reactions from Kenyans online, with some criticizing the move.
However, Wetangula remained defiant, stating that Ford Kenya had all it took to clinch the Kibra seat.
'Ford Kenya, the lion party, is no stranger to the great people of Kibra. My brother Rt Hon Raila Odinga went to parliament for the first time in 1993 on Ford Kenya party. We are on the brink of recreating history,' he said.
The Kibra by-elections are slated for November 7.
