On August 30, 2019, South Sudan authorities expelled 20 foreigners, including 16 Kenyans, from the country.
The deportation order was issued after the company they worked for, Insight Security, failed to resolve a pay dispute over salaries and arrears owed to guards.
According to Thiik Thiik Mayardit, the Juba deputy mayor, the 16 Kenyan nationals were given 72 hours to pay all dues owed to the government and their colleagues' pensions before leaving the country.
Insight Security was shut down last week due to allegations of workers' exploitation and failure to meet tax obligations.
Two of the company's senior managers were briefly detained in Juba before being released.
The company's guards went on strike two months ago after allegedly not being paid in US dollars, as stipulated in their contracts.
