This archive report was first published on 30 August 2019.

On August 21, 2019, Bernard Ngugi Gitau, a police officer, passed away after a long battle with diabetes.

His second wife, Trizar Nabwire Ouma, obtained an injunction in a Nakuru court to stop her co-wife, Jane Nyambura Ngugi, from burying their husband without her involvement.

Ms Nabwire claimed that her co-wife wanted to bury Mr Ngugi without involving her and their children, despite being legally married to him since 2012.

According to court documents, Ms Nabwire and Mr Ngugi had two children together, and he faithfully took care of the family until his death.

Ms Nabwire accused her co-wife of maliciously transferring Mr Ngugi's body from the Naivasha District Hospital mortuary to Kikuyu Mission Hospital without her knowledge.

Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Usui issued orders barring the hospital from releasing the body to anyone before the case is decided.

The case will be heard on September 2, 2019.
