Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Managing Director Jonny Andersen will depart the organization by the end of September, following his decision not to renew his contract, which was set to expire on November 21, 2019.

Jonny Andersen has been with the KAA since November 2016, bringing a wealth of industry knowledge and the ability to forge consensus among stakeholders. KAA Chairman Isaac Awuondo praised Andersen's service, stating, 'Jonny brought a good knowledge of the industry and an ability to forge consensus among stakeholders. He has served with distinction and I wish him well in his future endeavors.'

During his tenure, Andersen oversaw significant improvements, including strengthening the management team, enhancing customer service, and improving operations. The KAA Board is committed to ensuring the organization fulfills its full potential, enabling customers to experience stress-free travel.

The recruitment process for a new CEO/Managing Director has already commenced. This development comes after the parliament's approval of the restructuring of Kenya's entire aviation sector in July 2019. The restructuring plan includes the formation of an umbrella Aviation Holding Company, comprising the KAA, Kenya Airways, the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and a centralized Aviation Services College.

Transport Committee Chairman David Pkosing noted, 'This will now result in a whole restructuring as the parliament has given the executive power to implement the recommendations and do a proper restructuring of the aviation sector.'

The government has two years to adopt the necessary measures to enable the implementation of the directive.
