This archive report was first published on 30 August 2019.

On August 30, 2019, a letter listing the names of prominent Kenyan individuals allegedly wanted by international authorities over drug trafficking allegations began circulating on social media.

However, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji's office has since denied receiving the letter, which purported to have originated from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

‘The DPP Noordin Haji has not received the following letter circulating on social media purported to have been written by Interpol containing a list of wanted Kenyans for adversely being mentioned in the Akashas' drug case,’ the ODPP stated.

The letter in question listed several high-profile individuals, including Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, and several Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and judicial officers.

This is the second fake letter to be shared online in relation to the Akasha drug case in as many months.
