ODM has terminated the services of Wafula Buke as Director of Political Affairs, a move that has sparked debate within the party.

According to sources, Buke was fired through a letter dated August 29, 2019, signed by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Chairman Oduor Ong'wen.

"I have been fired as Director of Political Affairs and Strategies of ODM. I accept the letter and acknowledge receiving it," Buke said in a statement.

"I differ with you and I will continue to do so. I have lost my salary but the struggle to save ODM must continue," he added.

It is worth noting that Buke had previously been summoned to explain why he was being targeted by the party in June 2019.

Additionally, in 2017, Buke had declared himself the leader of the party's youth wing and had publicly criticized the party's leadership, including then-Secretary General Anyang' Nyong'o.

Nyong'o later wrote a letter to Buke, asking him to apologize and retract his statements.

Buke is known for his activism during his university days at the University of Nairobi, where he was involved in student politics and was later arrested and detained during the Moi regime.
