With the rise of social media, it's easier than ever to compare our relationships to others. We see perfectly curated images of happy couples, often tagged #relationshipgoals, and can't help but feel like our own relationship is lacking. But the truth is, social media only shows us the good times. No one shares their arguments, boring nights at home, or the countless ways they irritate each other. Published on August 30, 2019

These carefully curated images can take a toll on our love lives, leading to comparisons and pressure on our partners to be someone they're not. We start asking questions like 'Why them, why not us?' and 'Why aren't we doing this and that?' It's time to stop comparing and focus on our own relationship.

So, how do we stop comparing our relationships to others? Here are five tips to help you:

  • Find comfort within. Instead of seeking validation from others, focus on the good times you and your partner share. Remind yourself of the reasons you fell in love and the things that make your relationship special.
  • Avoid playing the blame game. When we compare our relationships to others, we often blame our partner for not being like someone else. Instead, focus on what you like about your connection and remind yourselves of what made you fall in love.
  • Get real with your friends. Share your relationship stories with trusted friends and hear about their struggles. You'll realize you're not alone and can offer each other advice and support.
  • Turn jealousy into action. When you see a romantic getaway on Instagram, don't let jealousy eat you up. Organize a fun activity with your partner and use these instances as reminders to get out and get active.
  • Take a break from social media. If all else fails, take a break from social media for a few days or a couple of weeks. Focus on being the best version of yourself and stay grounded in the present moment.
