On August 30, 2019, a Nairobi court made a significant ruling in a terrorism case, dismissing charges against Worqu Dejene Sar and his father Sar Guracha Haro.
The two had been accused of six terrorism-related acts in connection with twin explosions that occurred in two buses in Githurai in 2014.
However, Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi ruled that the police failed to provide sufficient evidence to link the two to the alleged terrorist acts.
Despite the dismissal of the terrorism charges, the court found Mr. Haro guilty of threatening a witness who had testified against his son.
The 2014 Githurai bus blasts resulted in the deaths of three people and injured 67 others.
The explosions occurred on May 4, 2014, when two buses, one heading to Githurai 45 and the other to Mwiki in Kasarani, were targeted.
