A bitter dispute between two wives of a deceased police officer has led to a court order halting his burial in Nakuru.

On August 30, 2019, Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Usui issued a temporary injunction against Jane Ngugi, the first wife of Bernard Ngugi, from conducting any burial or disposing of the body of the officer who died of diabetes.

Trizar Ouma, the second wife, had gone to court claiming that Ngugi had deliberately excluded her and her two children from funeral and burial arrangements of the deceased.

According to the affidavit, Ouma and Ngugi had lived together for seven years until August 24, when the deceased succumbed to diabetes.

Ouma sought orders to restrain the Kijabe hospital from releasing the body of the deceased to anyone, pending hearing of the application.

She also sought orders for the temporary preservation of the deceased body at Kijabe until DNA samples are collected in the presence of licensed pathologists appointed by both parties.

The case will be heard on September 2, 2019.
