On Friday, a suspected al-Shabaab member was fatally shot by police in Kwale, in a confrontation that left one officer injured.
According to Kwale Police County Commander Tom Odero, the suspect was cornered in the Ng'ombeni area of Matuga, where he opened fire on police who had ordered him to surrender.
"The suspect opened fire on police who had ordered him to surrender. One officer was injured as police exchanged gunfire with the suspect," he said.
Despite the suspect's initial resistance, police managed to overpower him and recover a pistol, as revealed by the police boss.
The suspect had been linked to the murder of two village elders in Ukunda three weeks ago, including an imam, Omari Fumbwe, and Nyumba Kumi chairman Bakari Dondo.
