On August 30, 2019, SWVL announced plans to use Nairobi as a base for its expansion to other cities in Africa and the world.

The company recently injected KSh1.5 billion into its Kenyan business, aiming to increase its route offerings and replicate its success in Nairobi and Egypt.

Speaking to the Kenyan Wallstreet, SWVL CEO Mostafa Kandil revealed that the company plans to expand to Lagos, Abidjan, and Johannesburg by the end of the year.

“We are planning to expand to Lagos, Abidjan, and even Johannesburg to solve the transport problem in emerging markets,” Mr. Kandil added.

SWVL's expansion plans are expected to create employment opportunities and provide high-quality public transport in emerging markets.

The company's Co-founder praised Nairobi's progressive take towards the company, citing a young tech-savvy population.

SWVL plans to introduce a corporate platform in Kenya, allowing companies to ferry employees to and from work using the company's buses.

The company also plans to launch customer packages, offering frequent riders discounted monthly rides.
