On August 30, 2019, the Repentance and Holiness Ministries took a bold step in upholding its values of purity and morality by excommunicating Bishop Joseph Gitonga, an assistant to Prophet Owuor.

The decision was made after Bishop Gitonga was found to have engaged in sexual activities with church members from his Kasarani station, a clear breach of the church's zero-tolerance policy on sin.

According to the church, Bishop Gitonga's actions were 'unforgivable' and could have a negative impact on the faithful, who strive to live a life free from blemishes and attain heaven with zero sin.

The church prides itself on being a decent environment in Kenya, where men and women are encouraged to steer clear of sinful acts like adultery and fornication until they are married.

However, the church's stance on morality has sparked a debate on the incorporation of spirituality with other aspects of life, including social needs, which psychology's pyramid of life outlines as essential for self-actualization.
