On August 30, 2019, Yvonne Mimamo, a resident of Dagoretti, Nairobi county, was arraigned in court for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl using sex toys.
The girl's mother reported the incident to the police after her daughter began experiencing nightmares and physical symptoms.
According to the mother, Mimamo would often take her daughter to her house to play, but would change her clothes and become hostile when questioned.
The mother said she initially thought Mimamo was a good neighbour, but grew suspicious when her daughter began exhibiting unusual behaviour.
She took her daughter to Nairobi Women's Hospital, where a doctor confirmed that she had been defiled.
The doctor advised the mother to report the incident to the police, which she did at Parklands police station.
Mimamo was granted a cash bail of Sh400,000 pending hearing and determination of the matter.
She denied the charges of defiling a child with a sex toy and indecently touching a child.
