On August 25, 2019, a group of women from the Kasarani church of Prophet Owuor's ministry made disturbing allegations against Bishop Gitonga.

According to the women, Bishop Gitonga had been praying and smearing anointing oil on their bodies, including their private parts, during a service.

The allegations were made after some members of the Kasarani church complained to Prophet Owuor about Bishop Gitonga's actions.

Prophet Owuor's prophet, Litunda, intervened in the matter and warned the bishops against sharing the confessions with anyone, citing the risk of the 'enemy' taking advantage of the situation.

However, the women's confessions were obtained by The Star, and audio clips of their testimonies were made available.

One of the women, who was only identified as Caro, declined to comment on the incident, instead asking The Star to speak to the church leadership.

When reached for comment, Litunda was in a meeting and promised to call back, but had not done so by 7pm the following day.

Three other bishops, who are members of the National Council of Bishops, declined to comment and referred reporters to senior archbishop Litunda.

Some church members claimed the women could have been coached to lie against Bishop Gitonga.

On Wednesday, the Kasarani church was brought down under unclear circumstances, with youth and church members loading the tents and equipment into a white canter.
