KNUT officials stormed the union headquarters on Thursday, demanding the eviction of Secretary-General Wilson Sossion, who has been at odds with the Teachers Service Commission.
The move comes after Sossion was struck off the register of teachers by the Teachers Service Commission, sparking a heated debate within the union.
According to the KNUT constitution, union members must be registered teachers, certified, licensed, or authorized to teach. The officials, who were seeking to hold a meeting, were stopped by the Labour Court on Wednesday after Sossion filed an urgent application.
Justice Byram Ongaya temporarily stopped the meeting, citing that some NEC members were planning to illegally remove Sossion from office.
Police were forced to intervene, using teargas to disperse teachers outside Knut House, and arrested four people in the process.
The situation at the headquarters erupted into chaos, creating drama in Nairobi's CBD.
It is not clear if Sossion was in the office when the officials stormed the building.
