Published on August 30, 2019, the 12th African Games in Morocco saw Kenya's indoor games performance falter.
Kenya's swimming team failed to impress, with the country failing to reach the medal bracket in all categories. North African nations, including Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia, dominated the championships, alongside South Africa.
Kenya's karate team also struggled, failing to impress in most men's and women's categories. Algeria won the men's Kumite title, while Morocco bagged men's and women's Kata titles. Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco won most individual titles.
Kenya's chess team posted mixed results in the round-robin matches, beating Cape Verde 4-0, drawing 2-2 with Zambia, and losing to Tunisia and Botswana. The team won two matches against Mauritius and Central African Republic but drew with Malawi and lost to Ethiopia and Nigeria.
Kenya's chess players, including Ricky Sang, struggled in individual matches. Sang lost to Zimbabwe's Rodwell Makuto and Nigeria's Osunfuyi Abimola but made a comeback to beat Mauritius' Hoolam Naipal and Eritrea's Zarabruk Asante.
Kenya's women's chess players, Joyce Ndirangu and Mongeli Maingi, failed to advance to the knockout stages.
