Kenya has taken the lead in Africa and the Middle East with the fastest internet speeds, averaging 15mbps.

According to a recent report, this impressive speed is followed by Israel at 14.4mbps, South Africa at 6.6 mbps, Morocco at 5.2 mbps, and Nigeria at 4.1 mbps.

Published on August 30, 2019, the report highlights the significant impact of fast internet on the economy, creating numerous income-generating opportunities for Kenyans.

With the internet at their fingertips, Kenyans can now buy and sell goods and services online, transforming the country into a global village.

As a result, thousands of transactions take place daily, contributing to the growth of the digital economy.

Speaking at the launch of the "Digital Economy Blueprint" this year, Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities created by the internet.

He noted that the digital economy will connect Kenyans to the world, making their goods, services, and expertise accessible across borders, opening up new markets.

Recently, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) engaged key players in the digital economy on taxation, a move that is expected to generate more revenue for development.

According to Mr. Mucheru, the successful implementation of the National Broadband Strategy has contributed to the high internet speeds and connectivity in the country.

"The strategy has enabled the government to rollout the National Optic Fibre Broadband Infrastructure that has linked all the counties to the Internet by fibre cable. Fibre cable ground installation and provision of 4G network coverage has contributed to the high speeds and efficiency in connectivity," he said.
