College Student Survives 80-Foot Fall From Balcony Yoga Pose

Published on August 29, 2019

College student Alexa Terrazas, 23, was practicing yoga on her sixth-floor apartment's balcony in northeastern Mexico when she fell 80 feet last Saturday afternoon.

According to EL Imparcial, Alexa suffered multiple fractures in her legs, arms, hip, and head after landing on the pavement below her balcony. Paramedics treated her on the scene and rushed her to the Zambrano Hellion Medical Center, where she underwent 11 hours of surgeries.

Doctors at the medical center said Alexa's ankles and knees will need to be reconstructed before she can walk again, and portions of her face will also need to be rebuilt in surgery. It may take three years for her to be able to walk again, according to the New York Post.

The Nuevo León Attorney General's Office confirmed that Alexa's fall was an accident, with no sign of damage on the rail or the balcony.

Alexa is studying nutrition at the Monterrey Institute of Technology, and family and friends gathered at Guadalupe Shrine to pray for her recovery.
