On August 29, 2019, the Immigration Department announced a new system to ease congestion in immigration centers.

As of then, Kenyans were required to book an appointment before visiting immigration centers to pick up their processed e-Passports.

Applicants could book appointments through the e-Citizen portal, specifying the date and time they wished to collect their passports.

According to the department, applicants must carry an appointment slip, original National ID, and expired or old passport for replacements when collecting their passports.

The new system exempted public officials with urgent assignments abroad, sick persons, students, and business executives with urgent engagements abroad.
